The pursuit of justice is central to what Dorrian Legal does.
In Australia we have a justice system. It has been developed in English and Australian law over the centuries and is based on lofty ideals such as fairness, equity, the presumption of innocence and the like. No one suggests our justice system is perfect, but it works pretty well a lot of the time.
However, not everyone who has to use our system thinks that it delivers justice. We have represented people who certainly do not think that they experienced justice. We have seen people trampled over by large companies with deep pockets and expensive lawyers. Too many people cannot access the justice system because of the cost, not only in financial terms, but emotionally. Many relationships have gone down the toilet because of the strain of litigation and the circumstances giving rise to it.
Even when some brave Davids take on the Goliaths of the world and win, you wonder whether, taking into account the money and emotional energy spent in gaining victory, they have really won anything.
Some brave people take positive action to seek justice and end up being publicly vilified and ridiculed for having the gall to rock the boat.
At Dorrian Legal we do not set out to change the world. We know our limits. We can’t really change the justice system. We don’t promise you diamonds and deliver a lump of coal. We don’t practise in every conceivable area of law, though we do offer a wide range of areas of legal practice. We know that there are 2, and sometimes more, sides to every story.
What we do offer to anyone who comes to see us is understanding, empathy and experience.
Understanding that people will often feel they have been wronged by someone else, often someone much more powerful than them.
Empathy in that we have felt the way people feel when they have been wronged.
Experience in that we have taken meaningful action on behalf of many people that have been wronged.
Your case might be a family law case, a franchising dispute, a business or commercial dispute, an argument over a deceased estate, or even a criminal charge. The principles of justice and our passion for excellence shine through no matter what kind of case yours is.
Have we been successful in every single case? Not a chance – life doesn’t work like that. TV’s Perry Mason had the good fortune to act for a whole bunch of innocent people who could afford his services. Those of us in the real world of justice do our best to achieve a satisfactory (and hopefully better) result for people who feel that the whole world is against them, and we like to think we do pretty well in most cases.
Sometimes our best advice is that, despite our client’s protestations, they simply don’t have a case, or at least not a case that will withstand the scrutiny a court will give to it, or that even if they do have a case it may not be worth pursuing.
If you feel that someone has done you wrong, we will give you honest, forthright (some would say “No BS”) advice on the merits of your case and the options available to you. If we don’t feel we can adequately represent you because we lack the expertise in the particular area of law, we’ll tell you and refer you to someone who can.
Above all, at Dorrian Legal, we are continually Fearlessly Seeking Justice.
